Google Vids adds free 1080p AI video creation with Gemini Omni

Google announced on September 23 that Google Vids now lets anyone with a Google Account create high-quality 1080p videos for free using Gemini Omni. The update adds controls for scene duration and transitions, making it easier to assemble polished videos without a traditional editing workflow. Google says the experience is available from vids.new on desktop.

For creators, the interesting part is not just free generation. It is that AI video creation is moving closer to a complete workflow: generation, timing and transitions inside one product. That lowers the friction for explainers, product concepts, pitch visuals and fast social drafts, especially for teams that do not want to move between several tools.

I would test this as a fast pre-production tool first. If it can generate clean scenes, control pacing and export usable 1080p results consistently, it could be valuable for storyboards, concept videos and quick drafts. I would still compare the output against dedicated AI video tools before using it as a final production workflow.
